Main Street Stars
Michelin-starred, celebrity chef Michael Mina, who has cooked for three United States Presidents and created over 40 restaurants worldwide, has come home to Marin to create another masterpiece.
“I have always loved Tiburon,” said Mina, “and this is my home turf. This community and this location deserve a world-class venue, and I can’t wait to share our incredible restaurant concept that we have in the works.” Mina is a Marin County resident. His new restaurant, scheduled to open in the Spring of 2021, is located on the water at 5 Main Street, with sweeping San Francisco Bay Views and lots of elegant indoor and outdoor dining. Each Michael Mina restaurant has a unique menu; the Tiburon establishment will feature coastal California cuisine with an emphasis on local ingredients and a sophisticated wine list. The Mina Group spokesperson Nicole Lax describes the restaurant atmosphere as “bohemian and chic”.
Next door to Michael Mina’s Restaurant, at 9 Main Street, Malibu Farm is a farm-to-table establishment focused on local, fresh and organic ingredients. The owners Chef Helene Henderson and her husband, John Stockwell, have other restaurants in Malibu (of course), and in Newport Beach, Montecito, New York, Miami, Cabo and Tokyo. “To have a location on The San Francisco Bay overlooking Angel Island and The City is a dream,” said Helene. Malibu Farms is scheduled to open in early 2021.
Enjoy a lazy afternoon or major celebration with a caviar and a champagne tasting at The Caviar Company at 46 Main Street. Or purchase it to-go and picnic along the grassy waterfront park where you may get a glimpse of dolphins, seals, pelicans, and if you are lucky, sometimes a whale.
A new wine lounge, Squalo Vino, is opening at 34 Main Street and will feature a superb selection of artisan wine and sumptuous small bites for those who want to sip and sample.
Long time favorites on Main Street, owned by local residents, include: Café Acri, owned by the Servino family, who have served the community for over 40 years; Sam’s Anchor Café, with a lively outdoor deck; Luna Blu, a seafood-focused Italian Restaurant; and Salt & Pepper, a neighborhood American-food establishment. A few steps off Main Street, along “Ark Row”, the family-owned Servino Ristorante serves homemade pastas, meats, seafood and thin-crust pizzas.
