Tiburon is Cool—And We’re Not Just Talking Weather
Record setting temps have been sizzling cities across the country, from Caribou, Maine, which saw 98 °F in June to Palm Springs, California, that baked at 124 °F on July 5, breaking a city record. Here in Tiburon, we don’t sweat the heat too much, since our summers are long, comfortable, sometimes fog-cloaked, and mostly sunny. With an average high of a 74°F, September is Tiburon’s warmest time of year, which makes it great month to visit the small town just a ferry ride from downtown San Francisco. As we often advise, dress in layers, the weather, like the town itself, is known to surprise people. Here are a few ‘cool’ suggestions for your next visit.
-Every day is paw-ty time in dog-friendly Tiburon, and nothing says we love your favorite four-legged friends like the outdoor patio at Le Petite Left Bank where their Chou Chou Doggy Menu (running through September 27) offers tail-wagging treats such as grilled chicken thigh, beef bone marrow, grilled ground beef, and six homeward bound dog biscuit. Humans can sip on crisp happy hour rosé and other libations, and toast knowing that 10 % of their pooch’s proceeds support Marin Humane.
-The only first-run 3-screen movie theater and performance venue in Marin County is Cinelounge, right here in our quaint waterfront town. Beer, wine, popcorn and hot food pair with retro and big-name movies such as Wolfs, coming on September 20 and starring global superstars Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Check in often for special showings of big games and popular TV shows, as well as one-off events like the Feel the Burn ‘80s Workout & Cocktails night held in August.
-Wrap yourself in a bay breeze and step aboard the Angel Island Ferry for a Wildlife Tour on the San Francisco Bay, where the water temperature hovers between the upper 50s to mid-60s during the summer. Brrrr. Luckily, the views of Tiburon, Belvedere, Sausalito, and San Francisco will bring on the warm and fuzzies, as will a sail under the Golden Gate Bridge in search of marine mammals such as sea lions and harbor porpoises. Tours go the first Sunday of the month, from June to October. Reservations advised.
-Taco Tuesday is alive and well in Tiburon. Can we get an olé? Tiburon Tavern kicks it up a notch by adding in a splash of tequila, turning Tuesday into a real fiesta. Drop by between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. for $5 tacos (chicken, steak, veggie, fish) and a choice of four different tequila drinks: margarita, paloma, sunrise or cruda, for just $9/each. Can’t make it Tuesday? The margarita is on the happy hour menu (3 p.m. to 6 p.m every other day of the week), as are $5 draft beers and snacks like truffle fries ($10).
-Normalize breakfast in bed and book a weekend (or midweek) getaway at the Waters Edge Hotel, on the shores of the San Francisco Bay, in the heart of downtown Tiburon. Here, mornings mean lounging in your spa robes and waiting for the complimentary continental breakfast to be delivered to your door. It’s one of the many beloved amenities of this 23-room boutique hotel, and we can’t think of a cooler (or more relaxing) way to start a day
